Summer is here. Know what that means? Florida Man, the superhero we never asked for and certainly don’t deserve, is on the loose. Not familiar? Florida Man doesn’t live in comic strips or on the silver screen — he's inside us all. He comes to life when you dare to ditch convention. When you embrace your most spontaneous, most unapologetic self. And while you can’t put Florida Man in a box, Cigar City Brewing managed to fit him in a can — in the form of a refreshing double IPA brewed with a criminal amount of hops.

To celebrate the onslaught of Florida Man season, we teamed up with his namesake brew to help you to get after it this summer in the superhero’s natural habitat: Your backyard. The ideas below are just the start. When in doubt, ask yourself, What would Florida Man do?

The Everyman's Lazy River

By this time, it’s already Florida-hot in many states. But most of us don’t have a backyard beach, pool or creek to cool off in. Luckily, the solution is cheap and Florida Man-approved: With some kiddie pools, a few bags of ice and a hose, you’re in business. Got five friends? Buy six kiddie pools — one for each of your buds, and one for ice and as many cans of Florida Man as you can fit.

Go Full Florida Man: If you keep the right company, your lazy river should be perpetually occupied. But as an added fail-safe, fire up a group text that activates anytime the mercury climbs past 85 degrees.

The Backyard BBQ Pit

Pretty much any self-respecting guy with a backyard has a grill. That’s entry-level stuff. A smoker, though, is next-level, and piecing your own together is just what Florida Man would do. With a food-grade 55-gallon drum, some basic power tools and a can-do attitude, you’ll be smoking brisket in no time. The best part? Once your smoker’s built, 99 percent of BBQing is sitting around waiting for the meat to hit temperature. Translation: more beer drinking time while you wait for dinner to be served.

The Outdoor Movie Theater

What’s better than rewatching episodes of Tiger King on a summer night? Doing it al fresco with the gang. So up your cinematic experience by transforming your backyard into a movie theater. The setup can be as simple, or as over-the-top, as you please and the necessities are easy to gather. Think: camping chairs, a healthy sized cooler, a white sheet to project against and a bluetooth speaker. No projector? No problem. With an extension cord, that 65-inch OLED TV of yours works outside too. All that’s left to do is rally the troops.

The "Sports" Center

If you’re like Florida Man, the gym is not where your athleticism thrives. The real world, especially the backyard, is your training ground. Enter lawn games. The more, the better: from classics like bocce and badminton to modern interpretations like spikeball and, dare we say it, pickleball; if you’ve got them all on hand, it’s easy to match your group’s vibe with the right dose of competition.

Go Full Florida Man: For added style points and difficulty, the aforementioned games should always be played with a cold beer in hand.

The Pop-Up Tiki Bar

Not everyone wants to soak in a kiddie pool, gorge themselves on BBQ, watch reruns or play supersized ping pong with their (extremely competitive) buddy. Some of us just want to sit and enjoy a cold adult beverage in a tropical atmosphere. For these folks, a simple backyard tiki bar should do the trick. The key elements are as follows: a thatched roof, rattan stools, island tunes and a cooler full of ice-cold Florida Man brews. You’re welcome, world.
